OLDER PEOPLE

The Eden Alternative identifies the “three plagues” of old age as loneliness, helplessness and boredom. The number of over-50s suffering from loneliness is set to reach two million by 2025/26, according to Age UK. This compares to around 1.4 million in 2016/17, a 49% increase in just 10 years.

The World Health Organisation recognises that arts activities provide a way of reducing loneliness and social isolation, and building self-esteem, self-acceptance and confidence. It also notes that the arts reduce apathy and improve the quality of life for those living with dementia.

Create’s projects play a vital role in tackling loneliness and improving the quality of life for vulnerable, isolated older people. Our projects bring them together, connecting, empowering, inspiring and upskilling them, enhancing their wellbeing.
