Meet Faridah, a young carer from lambeth
Meet Faridah, a young carer from Lambeth Throughout 2021/22, young carers from Lambeth work…
A carer is someone who provides unpaid care by looking after an ill, frail or disabled family member, friend or partner.
The impact of caring goes beyond a commitment of time and energy: many carers also experience social isolation and believe that their physical and emotional health has been negatively affected by their responsibilities. Many are unable to take a break from their caring responsibilities
According to Carers UK, there are around 6.5 million carers in the UK. In 2020, this figure increased to an estimated 13.6 million people caring through the pandemic. Of these, more than 800,000 are children and young people.
27% of young carers aged 11-15 miss school or experience educational difficulties; 68% are bullied and feel isolated at school. Adult carers, meanwhile, are twice as likely to report anxiety and seven times more likely to be lonely compared to the general population. (Source: Carers UK)
Create is committed to giving carers the chance to take time out from their responsibilities and participate in high-quality creative arts experiences, giving them the chance to express themselves, meet other carers, build skills, and boost their confidence and wellbeing.
