SPEAK WITH MY VOICE

the project
Speak With My Voice is our multi-artform project for people at the margins of society through homelessness, mental illness, loneliness, social exclusion and severe poverty. Since 2003, we’ve been working with drop-in centre Deptford Reach to provide vulnerable adults in South East London with high-quality arts workshops which improve overall wellbeing.
The project enables participants to develop both artistic and social skills, as well as enhancing self-confidence and self-esteem and having fun.
“I feel more confident to go inside myself to find words and match them with feelings.”

the need
The most prevalent health issues among homeless individuals are substance misuse (62.5%), mental health problems (53.7%) or a combination of the two (42.6%). (source)
77% of homeless people often/sometimes feel lonely (Crisis, 2015), and social isolation is recognised by support workers as a ‘major risk for health’. (Thames Reach, 2019)
