Past Event: Create to benefit from Rembrandt etchings exhibition, Friday 15 April 2016

On Friday 15 April, Rembrandt & Modern Masters will open at the John Davies Gallery in Moreton-in-Marsh, Gloucestershire. Create would like to thank Neil Kaplan CBE QC for loaning his unique collection of over 50 Rembrandt etchings, characterised as ‘Rembrandt’s people’, to be exhibited for the first time in over a decade. The exhibition, which runs from 15 April to 7 May, will support Create’s life-changing creative arts programmes with disadvantaged and vulnerable people.

Alongside the Rembrandt etchings will be a series of original prints to purchase, created by Modern British and European artists including Picasso, Bacon, Auerbach, Hockney, Moore and Freud with a percentage of the proceeds being donated to Create. Create will also benefit from the sales of a fully-illustrated 120-page exhibition catalogue of the etchings.

Rembrandt is arguably one of the greatest painters and printmakers in European art history despite experiencing hardships including the ill-health and premature deaths of his children, before himself dying in poverty. It feels very fitting that these etchings are being exhibited to raise support for Create’s programmes. We understand how beneficial taking part in the arts can be to disadvantaged people and how much they have to contribute. Cuts to arts funding are making it increasingly difficult for them to access the arts, and we are deeply committed to ensuring that they can benefit from the health and social benefits that taking part provide. I would like to thank Neil Kaplan and John Davies for making this incredible exhibition possible.”
